Chapter 9: Shadow of the City
Corran checked to see the door to the closet was locked. It was. No one would be getting out of there for awhile, even while sober. The door locked from the outside like other Nar Shaddan bars, and all the server droids were “malfunctioning” so that they wouldn’t hear any shouting. Corran finally decided not to barricade it with a large cabinet, as it would arouse suspicion. He left before anyone suspected anything. After adjusting the visor, Corran comforted himself with the soldier equipment he had. Now to head to the barracks, which was close by. He took a speeder that was no longer code-locked thanks to the datapad he found on one of the soldiers, and headed toward a tower-bunker. As long as he kept cool and acted well enough, he would get through this unscathed. He couldn’t help but think something was going to go wrong though.
The Wolf’s Heart, Tigress’s flagship, had just jumped out of hyperspace and transmitted the clearance codes. Nar Shadda, what seemed to be a place of refuge and a place of scum and villiany at the same time, could be seen right through the city window. The blockade could be seen also. From what she had read in reports, the slave-trafficing was better than she had expected. That wasn’t the reason she came. She came to check on the resistance on Nar Shadda. No doubt that the moon’s spaceports were being filled because they couldn’t be transported offworld to Nal Hutta, the planet it orbited. She could make use of these to help rebuild the (Sith). She wasn’t the only one who desired them, as pirates and alike would try to take over these stockpiles of resources for their own use. She didn’t know why pirates would want them other than money for spice. What a waste it was, to use something so useless and seemingly appealing. Tigress rose from her throne on the bridge and headed to her shuttle. She took it down and gazed at the tall buildings, some skyscrapers, and speeder traffic all around her. She landed in the hangar of the Planetary (Sith) Command Center, where she was met by Lord Twig. Twig had been in charge of slave trafficing since the blockade had been established. He ensured that no one escaped and that there were no failures in preventing them. He was a tall, thin Kel-Dor who spoke in an intimidating voice. When greeting his Queen however, he was sure to speak respectfully. She had a bigger body count than him, and if she didn’t she could. She was not to be underestimated, even if he was a head taller than her. “Welcome to Nar Shadda, my Queen.” He bowed to her as she walked up to him. “I am humbled to have you set foot on this moon, and will ensure that your stay here will be of satisfaction.” Tigress spoke as Twig stood straight again. “I’m sure I will be satisfied. I am here to properly inspect your duty and to ensure that you do not need to be replaced.” Twig escorted her out of the hangar and inwards toward the command center.
“Your ID seems to all match up Sergant Taun. You are hereby given clearance to enter the barracks-tower.” Corran smiled under his helmet. (Sith) troops were always easy to pass by and trick as long as someone knew what they were doing. “Just a little question. Where could I find a map of this sector?” asked Corran. “Well Sergant, seeing that you’re new here and all like most of us, I believe the map can be downloaded via datapad by the console around that corner.” The officer behind the counter smiled and pointed to where he was talking about. Corran immediately started with downloading the map. He called back to the officer. “Say, what was your name again?”
“As you can see my Queen, our security around the moon won’t allow any escapees or any heroes by. It would take a typical and comepletely efficient fleet to break through our forces. None of the cargo can be lost or damaged.” Lord Twig smiled at what he said, and seemed to have the normal arrogant face that all officers had. “How fast has your recent progress been in transportation? I could actually care less about the “protection” of the cargo if we have no real enemies.” Tigress stated. Twig dropped the smile and led Tigress down another tunnel. He had her go to the sky observation window. There, he showed her the slave ships taking off of the surface. “So far, we have made more progress than expected. Already 23% have been shipped out, and we so far have little resistance. If you can call barfights and run aways rebellion.” Lord Twig chuckled. “I guess you are doing an adequate job her lord. I shall stay for a few more days and keep an eye on things. I expect everything will run as you said it has been. Good night Lord Twig.” Tigress exited the observation room, leaving Lord Twig relieved and enraged at the same time. He remembered why he didn’t like female (Sith) Lords and prefered the old Dark Lord. He should have been his apprentice, not Tigress. He breathed through his mask, and turned around to continue to watch the ships leave the moon.
The (Sith) officer almost got to the comm before Corran snapped his neck. He had good reflexes or being an officer. He took his ID, uniform, badge, and weapons. He needed to get more evidence of the (Sth) operations. The barracks didn’t seem to supply complete data. All it said was that they were transporting the former refugees of the war somewhere in the Outer Rim. Corran couldn’t find why or where. He needed to in order to complete his mission. He took his (Sith) speeder towards the Planetary (Sith) Command Center. He, sensed something of great passion in the building. No doubt there were (Sith) lords in there. They wouldn’t be knocked out a easily as the troopers were. Perhaps there will be a fight afterall. He landed on a platform to get full clearance. Three figures were coming toward him. Two looked like Dark Jedi Apprentices. The center one looked like some sort of master. He couldn’t tell because of the Force mask on him. Corran sighed as the figures turned on their lightsabers. He quickly pulled out a poison grenade and a plasma grenade and sent the poison in first to distract the apprentices. The plasma did short worked with them. He pulled their lightsabers to his hands with the Force, just in time to block a Force jump attack from a double-bladed lightsaber. The two slashed each other until Corran threw his saber and flipped behind the master’s back, knocking his saber out of his hand by cutting it in half and successfully pulling his other back right through the master’s heart. Too easy. He better make it quick before more arrive. He sensed something far more dangerous than the Dark Jedi.
Twig sensed something. It was like the tiniest amount of insignificance was just, gone. He looked inside Tigress’s room, where she was sleeping calmly like nothing was happening. “Guards, check out the southeastern pad. Return me the problem dead or alive.” The (Sith) assasins bowed and ran off to their given destination. He sat on his throne in the control room, having his double-blade lightsaber spin around in the air with the Force. He sighed and hoped his guards wouldn’t fail him. They never did before, but then again nothing killed three Dark Jedi in only thirty or so seconds. Perhaps they would take down two, but that was overestimating. Still, there was something about this presence that seemed familiar.
